Former president Bill Clinton campaigns for Hillary at Fresno State
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Former president Bill Clinton reached out to Valley voters Monday. He took Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign to Fresno State.
The former president addressed a packed crowd in the Satellite Student Union building. A relatively small venue that left a lot of people waiting outside.
His message resonated with the pro-Hillary crowd-- only a handful of trump supporters showed up.
For those who got in to see him, like 20-year-old Grace Salas of Fresno, the visit by former President Bill Clinton was exciting.
"It was like-- there was no words for it, it was just amazing."
In the rally to support his wife's candidacy, the former president attacked Republican presidential contender Donald Trumps anti-immigrant rhetoric and emphasized ethnic diversity as one of Americas strongest assets.
"Look at this crowd. One of Americas biggest assets is, we have the youngest most diverse workforce on the face of the earth. Of any big economy and it's a huge meal ticket for the future," said Clinton.
He never mentioned Hillary's Democratic party rival Bernie Sanders, but made Sanders attacks on corporate America, income inequality, and the excesses of capitalism part of Hillary's platform.
"There is not a successful economy on earth that doesn't have a good, strong, government that helps to have the rough edges off of capitalism, and help people, through no fault of their own, that can't help themselves and put everybody in the stream of growth."
He cited his wife's experience as a United States Senator and Secretary of State and touted her as the most qualified candidate who could also work with Republicans.
"If you want more jobs, higher income, less inequality, and upward mobility she's your candidate. She's your candidate, not only does she got the best ideas, but because she's got the best ability to get things done in a divided climate in Washington. And is by far the most likely to keep trouble around the world from wrecking our progress at home. "
Outside, a few Trump supporters got into arguments with a few Hillary supporters, but they were shouted down by chants of Hillary.
A bus labeled, black men for Bernie briefly parked nearby, but left after blasting it's horn a few times.
After his address, Clinton greeted the crowd outside. They were thrilled to see him and take selfies with him.
"I loved it, I think he laid out a clear cut course of why I should vote for Hillary Clinton," said Kathy Kilday, attendee.
This was a relatively small event, in a confined space, apparently for security reasons. It was definitely a pro-Hillary crowd.
Despite a tight schedule, the former president did spend quite a bit of time with the crowd before heading north to Sacramento.
