Despite the shutdown, some local businesses and national parks that receive government funding will remain open.

The Fresno Housing Authority which provides housing assistance to low and moderate-income families will be open on Monday.

Fresno Housing is not a federal agency but it does receive federal funding for many of its services.

Brandi Johanson of the Fresno Housing Authority said, "The last time the government shut down in 2013 it shut down for 16 days. And we were able to keep our doors open throughout the entire shutdown. We anticipate staying open this time for our residents and community. "

Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks will also be open but there will be minimal staffing and no one will be at the information desk or ticket booths.

Hotels, gift shops, and concessions are still operating but bathrooms in the parks will be locked.
