A sales tax increase in the City of Hanford will now be in the hands of voters.
The city council voted Tuesday night to place a measure on the November ballot that would raise the sales tax by one percent. The money would be used to improve public safety and maintain essential city services, such as the police and fire departments.
The city council says the sales tax increase would generate about $8 million a year of additional general fund revenue.
