Merced City Council votes to sell land, raise garbage rates
The Merced City Council has voted to sell nearly two acres of land for a new development project.

MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Merced City Council has voted to sell nearly two acres of land for a new development project. They also approved a rate increase for all garbage and recycling.

The property located at G and 23rd Streets sold for $480-thousand. It will soon be home to a Pro-Lube and sandwich shop. The existing car wash will be upgraded and there will also be a pet grooming center. The project could add up to 28 new jobs.

The Merced City Council also approved a rate increase for all garbage, recycling and green waste service. It was a six to one vote, with councilman Noah Lor opposed. The price will go up from $31.21 to $32.31 starting January first. That rate will go up 3.5 percent every year for the next five years.
