A Dutch father, mourning the death of his only daughter in the tragic flight MH17 crash, wrote an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin detailing who she was, and what the loss has meant to him. Hans de Borst of Monster, Netherlands posted the English translation letter on his Facebook page, along with the above photo, calling his daughter a "loved and only child."

In the letter, de Borst explains how his daughter, Elsemiek de Borst was his only child, just 17 years old, doing well in school and just a year away from her final school exams. She was en route from Amsterdam to spend a vacation in Malaysia with her mother, stepfather and little brother.

Elsemiek was apparently looking forward to studying Engineering at the Delft University of Technology. De Borst chastises Putin and those responsible, repeatedly saying that he hopes they are proud to have "shot her."

In a post-script, de Borst challenges Putin to listen to Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who recently said that the behavior of the Russian-backed Ukraine-separatist rebels guarding the area has been "completely disrespectful."

De Borst further challenges Putin to guard the crash site with the Russian military, "so the Dutch investigators can do their job." Currently, separatist troops have closed off the site, barring anyone from entering.

The grief-stricken letter ends with de Borst signing his name, saying that his "life is ruined." The photo of Elsemiek, above, was included at the bottom of the letter.

For a complete English translation, done by Lennart Peeters:

Thank you very much mister Putin, leaders of the separatists or the Ukraine government!

For murdering my loved and only child, Elsemiek de Borst!
She was 17 years old, 5th "gymnasium" student at the "Segbroek College" in Den Haag.
And she was on her way to her holiday in Maleisi together with her little brother, her mom (my ex-wife) and her stepfather.

Elsemiek would have done her final school exams next year, together with her best friend Julia and Marina, she did so good in school!
After that she wanted to go to the "Technical University Delft" to study engineering, she was looking forward to it!

But suddenly she is not here anymore! She has been shot out of the sky, in an unknown country, where there is a war going on!

Aforementioned misters, I hope you're proud to have shot her, amongst other, young life and future.
And that you will be able to look at yourself in the mirror tomorrow morning.

I hope you will receive this message, maybe translated in English (what you as a intelligent gentleman could read just fine)

Thanks again!

Regards, Elsemieks father Hans de Borst from Monster, The Netherlands, whose life is ruined!!

PS mister Putin, I hope that your intense conversation with our prime-minster Rutte opened your eyes!
I know you are impressed by this and I would find it impressive if you took the initiative to guard the crash-sight with the Russian military, so the Dutch investigators can do their job.
Thanks in advance.

Elsemieks de Borst has been confirmed to have been aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, amongst 297 others. There are no known survivors.
