Ted Cruz's father addresses Fresno crowd in church

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A pastor visited Fresno Friday evening and pushed for a spiritual revival in politics. He says his son, presidential candidate Ted Cruz, is a man of faith who will turn this country around.

"This is a wake-up call," Pastor Rafael Cruz told the crowd at Cornerstone Church. "This is a call to action."

For about an hour, the pastor mixed politics with religion.

"It's about time pastors become biblically correct rather than politically correct," Rafael said.

His message was clear, he believes his son, Ted Cruz, should be the next president because it's a path he chose when he was just 9 years old.

"That passion became like fire in his bones," he said. "That fire is as alive today as it was 30 years ago."

Nathan Bond was in the crowd for the service and would vote for Cruz in this election if he could, but he is also just 9 years old. "He'll get rid of Obamacare," Nathan said.

He's not campaigning for Cruz officially, but he is a fan. In fact, the two have already met and they share something in common.

"What does Ted Cruz do that you like?" a campaigner asked him.

"He's for the constitution," Nathan replied.

Nathan is trying to memorize the constitution. It's something, Pastor Cruz says Ted did when he was 13.

"His love for the constitution did not start 3 or 4 years ago," Rafael said. "It started over three decades ago."

Another Republican, John Kasich, picked up some very visible Fresno support in his campaign for the presidency. Mayor Ashley Swearengin says she's behind Kasich because, "He has a proven, pragmatic and responsible record of getting things done for the American people."

Kasich and Cruz recently formed an alliance to try and defeat Donald Trump, the party's front-runner.

"The problem is Trump has no solutions," Rafael exclaimed. "He is full of hot air."

With that, Pastor Cruz closed with a prayer and asked the people to vote with conviction.
