FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Hundreds of people attended midnight Masses, including one at St. John's Cathedral in Downtown Fresno. The Christmas Eve tradition brings many Valley families together. The service gave Catholics the chance to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Additional Masses were held throughout the day. A late-morning Mass filled St. Johns with worshippers. Even those who say they never miss a Sunday Mass find attending on Christmas a special event.

"Oh yes, I have my family with me. They are all in there still, but it is very special to come on Christmas," said David Zarate of Fresno. "We are all going to go to the house now and have menudo, posole and all that good stuff."

Four Masses were held at St. John's Cathedral on Christmas Day, which is considered the holiest of days in the church calendar.
