FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- For shoppers who want to avoid the crowd Walmart is now offering a free online grocery shopping pickup service. Once an order comes in a personal shopper starts filling baskets with everything from produce to shampoo.

"With the grocery pickup we have our basic health and beauty items, our chemical items, and our grocery items from frozen to fresh groceries," said Store Manager Mike Liebsch.

Holly Smith was one of the first customers to use the service. She drove up and had her trunk immediately filled with groceries she ordered on her phone.

"Incredibly convenient-- my two kids are in back of the car and they don't even have to get out, so it makes the day super quick and groceries have been super easy rather than difficult and time consuming in the heat."

Stores are trying to keep pace with an ever-changing retail landscape.

"Everybody's mobile and if it can save them 10 minutes or two hours," said Liebsch.

Customers crave convenience not only in grocery shopping but also meals, so eateries like El Taco Rapido have added the Uber Eats option. People place orders on the Uber Eats app and a driver delivers their food.

"Yeah I think people are just short on time. They don't have a half hour for lunches, they don't have time to actually go out and eat and wait in line, so Uber Eats makes it more convenient for somebody just to have their food dropped off and then go ahead and have your half-hour," said Laura Gaona, El Taco Rapido.

The app has helped the restaurant find new customers.

Gaona said some of her customers said they do not even have time or patience to wait in a drive-through window.
