Back-to-school shopping: It pays to procrastinate
School is back in session around the Valley, but it's not too late to score some of the hottest back-to-school deals right now. In fact, it pays to procrastinate.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Erasers, pencils, glue sticks -- the list for back to school has grown by 30 percent this year. But procrastinators rejoice.

"The last week of August is a great week to get back-to-school deals because not only do you get back-to-school sales but you also get Labor Day sales," said Julie Zeveloff, deputy editor at Business Insider.

Let's start online. Spend $50 at Target and with a coupon code and you get $5 back on top of their back-to-school sale prices, like an Epson printer marked down from $99 to $59, or their buy one get one free on all kids shoes and apparel.

Backpacks: E-bags has some marked down $60, then you throw in a code, $34.

Need uniforms for school? Walmart has polos for $3.97, and JC Penney has a 15 percent off deal, Old Navy has 40 percent off online and in store. So does Children's Place, plus free shipping on all orders.

Something you shouldn't buy right now -- an iPhone.

"The iPhone 6 is going to be unveiled September 9, and that means that the prices on the models that are currently out -- the 5C and the 5S -- are likely going to drop," said Zeveloff.

Wait a few weeks and save as much as $100.

And here locally, another money-saving option is buying secondhand. Just Between Friends' fall consignment sale starts Thursday at the Fresno Fairgrounds Commerce Building. Shoppers can find new and gently used clothes, costumes, shoes and toys for kids of all ages.
