Black Lives Matter protest brings crowd to Downtown Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Protestors made their voices heard outside the Fresno County Jail Wednesday night. It's where the Black Lives Matter rally started, bringing out more than a hundred people to Downtown Fresno.

Demonstrators marched to police headquarters, city hall, and even the Sheriff's Office holding signs and banners against what they believe is police brutality. Especially after the shootings of two black men in Minnesota and Louisiana.

"Hopefully with the two gentleman losing their lives, that encourages the mass and the community to really come out so we can heal," said Tanisha Sorrell, Black Lives Matter.

Iana Robles wore this hoodie to the event. On it are stickers with the names of people shot and killed by police.

Robles said her frustration dates back to Rodney King, who was beaten by police officers in Los Angeles.

"That was 24-years-ago and it doesn't seem like much has changed even though it was on video tape."

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer kept an eye on the protest inside the Real Time Crime Center using survelliance cameras.

This rally Dyer said was a lot different than the one over the weekend where some 500 people marched from Blackstone and Shaw in North Fresno to Clovis.

"Very peaceful, much smaller crowd, 20-percent of what we had Saturday and so far no one has been in the street."

And between the Sheriff's Office and Fresno Police there were about 100 officers and deputies on the ground monitoring the protest.

Both agencies said no arrests were made, however, we have learned that the organzer of Saturday's much larger protest. Justice Medina was arrested Wednesday night and issued a citation for holding a rally that went into the streets and blocked off traffic without a permit.

Medina was released at the scene of the stop and not booked into the Fresno County Jail.
