Cooling centers open across the Valley

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The City of Fresno and the City of Madera have cooling centers ready to help residents beat the heat.

The city of Visalia will open their cooling center June 27th.

Fresno cooling centers will be open at the following locations from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.:

- Ted C. Wills Community Center, 770 N. San Pablo.
- Frank H. Ball Neighborhood Center, 760 Mayor.
- Mosqueda Community Center, 4670 E. Butler.
- Pinedale Community Center, 7170 N. San Pablo.
- Romain Neighborhood Park, 745 N. First

The City of Visalia will open its Transit Center as a cooling center for the community's use, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday, June 27th thru Wednesday, June 29th.

The Transit Center is located at 425 E. Oak Ave.

The City of Hanford will be opening a Community Cooling Center from June 27th through June 29th.

The cooling center is located at the Longfield Center, 560 S. Douty Street and will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Visalia Fire Department provides the following tips to help cope with the coming heat:

-Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and, when possible, stay in the shade or an air- conditioned room.

-Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothes.

-Drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids.

-Never leave children or pets in a vehicle, even for short periods of time. Temperatures inside vehicles can climb rapidly to life-threatening levels, even with the -windows partially open.

-Periodically check on children and the elderly.

-Remember that animals are affected by the heat. Make sure pets and farm animals have plenty of water and access to shade.
