SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Eight of the state's most popular figures were inducted into California's Hall or Fame.

Governor Brown and the first lady welcomed the honorees and presented them with a medal at Sacramento's Memorial Auditorium

Actor Robert Downey Jr., Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi, martial arts star Bruce Lee and news anchor Lestor Holt were just some of those inducted.

2015 Marked the ninth year of the awards that honor prominent Californians for their contributions to the worlds of art, science, literature and sports. "I think we're all proud Californians here and to be recognized by the governor and the first lady is pretty cool so its fun," Yamaguchi said.

The hall of fame event was started by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and first lady Maria Shriver.

Previous enshrines include John Wayne, Jackie Robinson and Cesar Chavez.
