FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Sixteen years ago the nation made a promise to never forget. September 11th, 2001 a terrorist attack on American soil took the lives of almost 3,000 people-- 343 of them were firefighters.
Monday morning at Station 3 in Fresno first responders took part in what is called the burpee challenge. The challenge-- doing 343 burpees in a row to honor the firefighters lost in the 9/11 attacks.
This is the 16th year the department is hosting this challenge and the event will kick off at 8:46 when the first tower was hit. They will start with a moment of silence and at 9:03 a.m. the challenge will start. That time is when the second tower was hit.
Proceeds from Monday's event will benefit the Fallen Firefighters Association.
