FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno mother who has worked hard to transform the neighborhood she lives in was given a life-changing surprise.

Wednesday afternoon Habitat for Humanity presented Alicia Chezick with the gift of a new roof. It's something she's been needing for a long time and been saving for. But, because she's done so much to help her community, Habitat for Humanity decided to surprise her with the gift.

"Its just been recognized. We've done a lot of cleanups, we just-- it's a lot of things-- so I'm happy," said Chezick

Chezick has been influential in the opening of a new park in her neighborhood and has served as a leader in several of Habitat for Humanities' events.

The gift of a new roof has also been made possible through a partnership with other groups including Lowe's.
