In 2010 the Fresno Police Department nearly did away with the unit because of budget cuts, but the unit was kept alive thanks to donations from the community.
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- One of the Fresno Police Department's most beloved units is getting ready to gallop in a fundraiser on Saturday.
The Fresno Police Department's Mounted Patrol Unit is the only horseback unit from San Francisco to Bakersfield. They frequently patrol River Park, as well as community events in the Tower District. The unit was established in 1993.
The unit is holding a fundraising event this weekend at the Clovis Rodeo Grounds. The event will feature dinner, music, dancing, and both a silent and live auctions.
