FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno Police are using a new tool to better understand what people really think of them. The police department is polling people through an app called Nextdoor, that anyone can download right to your phone. And leaders say they're already getting a lot of people weighing in.

It's never been easier to connect with neighbors and now you're just one click away from talking to police.

"This allows us to get information from the community in real time. It also allows us to give information back to the community," said Dep. Chief Robert Nevarez of the Fresno Police Department.

Through an app called Nextdoor, police officers are polling users. Every week asking one question like, "generally do you feel the police department is doing a good job at keeping your neighborhood safe?"

Darren Mohler of Central Fresno says, "Yes I do. Like I said I see police several times a day driving my street, and if I ever did have a problem they would be here pretty quick."

The answers from neighbors are being compiled and already police say they're adapting even from the negative responses.

"I there's more that can be done," said Johnny Ramirez.

"Those are things that are important for us to hear. Because maybe we're not doing it in a manner that the community truly wants," said Nevarez.

Hundreds of people are already answering, but police want the questions to reach the whole community. So if you would like to answer any of the questions, they are posting one per week. All you have to do is log on to Nextdoor.com and become a member.
