Habitat for Humanity celebrates completion of community in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Habitat for Humanity celebrated the completion of another community Saturday. The last family moved into Hope Village near Chestnut and Church Avenue.

The nine unit subdivision cost $1.3 million to build and marks the 133rd family volunteers have been able to help here in Fresno.

Local businesses who sponsored the project say it's wonderful seeing more families realizing the dream of owning their own house.

The celebration ended with a tree planting ceremony at all nine homes.

"It's a beginning, and people can watch the tree grow along with their own family. It's fun to watch them side by side," said Lee Ayres, CEO-- Trees Fresno.

Volunteers planted a total of 18 trees.

They said the landscapers designed the home so that it will use less water.

The homes are also energy efficient, they are equipped with solar panels paid for by PG&E.
