FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Hundreds of people braved the early morning showers Sunday to take part in the 15th annual Central Valley Walk to Defeat ALS.

The walk also marked the inaugural distribution of the Central Valley Walk Hero Award which was given to honoree Eric Amadorl, a veteran of the Persian Gulf War and executive chef for Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

His longtime friend chef Robert Irvine of Food Network's "Restaurant Impossible" was on-hand to present the award.

"If you come out to an event like this there's nothing that inspires more to see the patients, the caregivers and people who truly believe that they can make difference," he said.

Funds raised from the event help to support the families of those suffering Lou-Gerig's disease while helping to find a cure.
