FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A few hundred people attended an immigration workshop in northwest Fresno.

It took place at the Sikh Institute of Fresno. And organizers say the meeting was designed to provide information to the Sikh community about various immigration issues that could potentially impact them.

Fresno council member Esmeralda Soria was there and says the goal is to empower all residents who live in the city regardless of their immigration status.

"We want to make sure that people know their rights and that they understand any immigration consequence of actions of coming into contact with law enforcement," she said.

In addition to guest speakers, a number of immigration attorneys were also present to answer legal questions.
