The Silent Garden-Fresno State will hold its 4th annual Silent Garden Lecture.

The free event will provide helpful resources, workshops and a lecture for Latino families who have a child who is Deaf or hard of hearing (DHH).

The event, entirely in Spanish (with English captions) is expected to be the first of its kind in the Central Valley.

Keynote speaker will be Irma Sanchez, the founder of Los-Angeles based nonprofit, Deaf Latinos Organization. She will speak about her experience raising 3 deaf sons and her advocacy work on behalf of families of DHH children.

In the California School System, Latinos who identify as DHH make up 50-60% of the population and are the largest minority within the deaf community. Services for this population is limited, which is why the lecture is so important.
