LGBT center now open in Merced

MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) -- A new community center is now open in the North Valley.

The facility on G Street near 18th is the first lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender center in Merced. On Saturday, residents celebrated the grand opening, which included a flag ceremony.

Organizers say the goal is to provide resources and a safe gathering place for the LGBT community. But everyone is welcome, and other local groups are also invited to hold meetings there.

Gay Central Valley and Merced Full Spectrum worked together to get funding for the center.
