Local kids become youth triathlon champions
Participants as young as 6 had to run, swim and bike across closed courses around the Clovis North Education Center.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Racers as young as 6 years old are now triathlon masters after completing the iCAN Tri Youth Triathlon in Clovis.

It's an event sanctioned by the USA Triathlon.

Participants run, swim and bike in closed courses at and near the Clovis North Education Center and new this year, adults got to compete in their own divisions.

Miller Creek Middle School student Jordan Loftin said she did her first triathlon at just 5 years old.

"I feel really good," she said. "I'm glad it's over. It's really hot."

Organizers of the race said participants traveled from southern California and the Bay Area to participate with local triathletes.

USA Triathlon recognized the iCAN Junior Triathlon Club as one of the top three youth clubs in the nation back in 2011.
