FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- City leaders and residents of a Southwest Fresno neighborhood celebrated the grand opening of a new playground on Tuesday.

The Almy Street Playground and Park is now open at Almy and North. It's a project that was made possible with help from private donations and local donors.

Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin acknowledged on Tuesday the opening of this park was worth the wait. She said, "This neighborhood is now visible, and neighborhoods just like this, dozens of other neighborhoods that now are really a centerpiece when it comes to decisions at city hall on land use, and growth, and public infrastructure and investment."

Now that the park is open, the city plans to use $800,000 to rebuild streets in the area to allow better access for families who live nearby.
