One year after Fresno County Jail shooting, Officer Scanlan still fighting towards recovery

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- One year to the day after being shot at the Fresno County Jail, the family of Malama Scanlan posted encouraging news on Facebook.

The family wanted to thank all of those who have helped Scanlan along his road of recovery, saying they have been deeply moved and inspired by his will during his rehab treatment.

Scanlan spent time at hospitals in Fresno and San Francisco before moving to Houston where he started to show signs of brain function and small movements.

Last week, Scanlan was transferred to a new rehabilitation center in Denver.

Part of his treatment includes neuro-therapy which uses laser technology to help his cells wake up and respond to therapy.
