Teen girl takes prom to hospital room after her date was injured in car crash

When her prom date couldn't make the event after being seriously injured in a car accident, this teenager brought the party to her date's hospital room.

Alyah Mitchell, 18, told ABC News that she was thrilled when her friend JR Hall, 18, invited her to her high school prom. The only problem was that Hall was still recovering from a car accident that left him immobile in early February.

"For about the first month of the accident, he could not speak on his own, and he didn't remember much," said Mitchell. "It was a pretty bad accident. He had to have surgeries on his neck. Pretty much all his normal body functions were out of whack."

A short while after the accident, Hall asked Mitchell if he could be her date to prom on March 21.

"He asked me if I would go with him once he gets better because it would make his night really special," Mitchell told ABC News. "I was always hoping he would be able to go."

Hall had thought he would have healed by then, though his recovery has taken longer than anticipated.

"I realized he wouldn't be able to take me because I figured he wouldn't heal in time," Mitchell said. "I was hoping by some miracle it would happen, but it didn't."

Hall told ABC News he was upset to learn he could not take Mitchell to prom, hoping to have danced all night with her.

But when prom night came, Mitchell put on her dress two hours before the dance, and pay Hall a visit.

"I thought it would be sweet to go down to the hospital and surprise him," she said.

After Mitchell tweeted the photo of her and her beau together in the hospital, the image was shared over 1,000 times. And Hall was over the moon.

"It made me feel really special and she looked really good," he said. "I love her smile, she's really sweet, and I really love her personality."

Hall attends a different school than Mitchell, and is now hoping he can recover in time to take to her to his high school's prom on May 9.
