Every second counts, and on Tuesday, June 30, you get one more. A "leap second" will be added to the clock.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Every second counts, and on Tuesday, June 30, you get one more. A "leap second" will be added to the clock.

The extra second is being added to account for a difference between the Earth's rotation and the official atomic clock used to keep time around the world. Earth's rotation is gradually slowing down, so scientists use "leap seconds" to adjust for it.

Officials have added a "leap second" 25 times since 1972. The last time we added a "leap second" was on June 30, 2012. It caused issues with several websites, including LinkedIn and Yelp.
