Valley Veterans head out on a trip that honors their sacrifice
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Monday morning 70 veterans headed on the trip of a lifetime-- the Central Valley Honor Flight.
The excitement was building at the Fresno Yosemite International airport as dozens of men and women who have served our country headed out to Washington DC to see monuments built in their honor.
There are 70 Veterans from 22 hometowns in nine different counties who headed on this three-day trip. The flight includes three women and 67 men who range in age from 80 to 97 and represent the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Army Air Corps/Air Force.
Eighteen of these veterans served in World War II, with the rest serving during the Korean War era. One veteran even served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, and at least six more served during Korean and Vietnam Wars.
The ceremonial sendoff started at 6:30 a.m.
The return flight will arrive at FYI on Wednesday, October 11th at 6 p.m. with an incredible welcome home event that will fill the airport's lobby with loved ones, friends, military officials and more-- giving these veterans the welcome home they deserve.
This is Central Valley Honor Flight's 14th flight since forming in 2013. The all-volunteer non-profit funds the flights and travel logistics for veterans through private and corporate donations.
