LAS VEGAS (KFSN) -- The Red Wave won't like to hear this, but reigning Mountain West champion Boise State is the favorite to repeat as football champ in the conference.

At the Mountain West Media Days, from a Fresno State perspective, it's unfamiliar territory for the Bulldogs. Since the Mountain West went to a two division format, Fresno State has been picked first two years, and each time the bulldogs have fulfilled those predictions. Except this time around, they're looking up at San Diego State.

The Dogs picked second in the preseason poll, head coach Tim Deruyter, not too worried about it.

"It's probably a reflection of what we've done the last couple of years. We didn't end last year very well. But we did manage to win our division. We've got a lot of questions to be answered. Particularly at QB. But I like how we competed this spring. We've got some good young players, that a lot of people don't know about. But hopefully, as we go through this fall, they'll be kind of famous," said Deruyter.

Of course the big question from the red wave is who will be the starting quarterback? If three's a crowd, than what's four? We know about Greenlee, Anderson and Virgil. Now, Ford Childress has joined this group.

Into fall camp there's still question marks about the number one guy, but head coach Tim Deruyter says Childress brings a different element to an already crowded quarterback group.

"I don't believe so. Ford brings something that the other three don't have and that's just experience. But he doesn't have experience in our system. Anytime I think you can up the competition and we always want to have four QBs on the roster, it's a good thing. We'll figure out in the first couple of weeks of camp, we'll divvy up the reps .And hopefully one guy will emerge. The guy who's going to emerge is the guy who takes care of the football and he's going to move our offense," said Deruyter.

Justin Norther, Bulldogs Offensive Lineman: "I love the competition. Competition only makes it better. Like I always tell younger guys that are playing behind me or anybody. It's the competition no matter how old you are. If you're better than me and you play, it's going to make our team better .So, you know I think competition is great. It's going to make us that much better. It's kind of cool that there's tons of options back there to know we're going to get the best guy."

And a couple more bulldog notes to pass along from media days here in Las Vegas. Marteze Waller ,the running back, and offensive lineman Alex Fifita were the only Bulldogs named to the preseason all-conference team.
