Clint Dempsey again got the better of Portland, scoring in his fourth straight game against Seattle's rival with a 77th-minute goal in the Sounders' 1-0 victory over the Timbers on Sunday night.

Nearly 40 years to the day of the first meeting between the Timbers and Sounders, Dempsey made sure Seattle would come away with the victory in the 89th meeting between the sides.

Dempsey tapped in the rebound after Andy Rose's initial shot was saved by goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey. It was the second time in the last year that Dempsey scored on Kwarasey. Dempsey got the best of Ghana's goalkeeper in the World Cup opener for the United States last June in Brazil.

The Sounders won for the third time in the last four matches against the Timbers. Dempsey's goal was his fourth of the season and came after Portland had most of the chances in the second half.

Dempsey has six goals in his last four matches against the Timbers, including a hat trick last year in Portland.

Stefan Frei earned his fourth shutout of the season in goal for Seattle and he earned it after Portland spent the second half peppering shots.

Portland's Diego Valeri was available off the bench for the first time since suffering an ACL injury in the regular season finale last October, but did not play. Without Valeri and Will Johnson, the Timbers lacked the offensive creativity to break down the Sounders for most of the night.

Felipe scored on a fluky second-half header to give the New York Red Bulls a 1-1 tie with the LA Galaxy, leaving New York as the MLS's only undefeated team.

Bradford Jamieson scored his first MLS goal and goalkeeper Jaime Penedo made two fantastic saves on Bradley Wright-Phillips but it was not enough to prevent defending champions LA winless road streak from reaching 10 games.

The Red Bulls are off to their best start in franchise history.

Felipe, acquired from Montreal in January, scored his first goal with New York in the 58th minute when defender A.J. DeLaGarza's clearing attempt in the penalty box hit him in the face and went into the net.

Jamieson had scored in the ninth minute after turning around defender Chris Duvall and beating goalkeeper Luis Robles with a shot from the left side of the box.

The Galaxy are unbeaten in their last three games.

Meanwhile in Orlando, Jozy Altidore scored two second-half goals as Toronto FC beat expansion side Orlando City to snap a four-game losing streak.

Toronto, playing in its sixth straight road game, scored the initial goal of a match for the first time this season.

Altidore played a quick free-kick near midfield for a give-and-go with Sebastian Giovinco in the 50th minute and Altidore rounded a defender and rolled in a goal off the far post. Altidore added another in the 83rd after getting two Orlando players to bite on a shot fake and he left-footed in his fourth goal of the season.
