'Dogs Softball More Than Just About Compton in 2016

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- In last year's NCAA Regional up in Eugene, Jill Compton gave up 3 earned runs against North Dakota State and just got outdueled that day in the circle.

The next day against BYU, she struggled giving up five runs in 3.1 innings in a game where the Bulldogs would also lose and be eliminated from the tournament.

The senior right-hander coming into this postseason has 24 of the dogs 41 wins this season. But even her head coach admits that Jill's not as dominant as she's been in previous years.

Trisha Ford says that's because the Mountain West has adjusted to her ace in that time.

However, there's a certain swagger coming from this 'Dogs lineup.

Here's a look at the last two season's statistically for Jill Compton.

- Her number of wins and strikeouts are down, but so are her innings pitched.

- ERA is up slightly.

Despite her totals being lower than 2015's campaign, Compton led the Mountain West in wins and strikeouts and this season she boasts the #2 offense in the Mountain West that'll she'll have with her in LA.

"This year, it's much more business like. And these kids know that. They know what this feels like, they know what it smells like, they know what it tastes like. So, offensively I think you can put our lineup with anybody in the nation. From head-to-toe, 1-9, and a couple of our pinch hitters I mean, it's a pretty tough lineup. Not a lot of pitchers like to face us, so we're in a good place. I think Jill is starting to really kind of feel some things. Adjustments and great bullpens this week. We had some live stand-ins and she started to really feel some things." said Trisha Ford.

"Yeah I mean, I wasn't very happy with my pitching performances in some games. But, it's awesome to have my team back me up. I don't have to pitch shutouts. I know that we're going to win. And to feel free out there really helps out too, so." said Compton.
