El Capitan beats Merced In First Match Up Since 1962

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- El Capitan and Merced renewed a rivalry Friday night when the Gauchos beat the Bears 50-49 at the "Stable Center" on El Capitan's campus.

The Gauchos have a new campus that's barely a couple years old, but they were a high school for three years between 1960-1962. Merced took over that campus and that address remains Bears' territory today. Gauchos play in the WAC and the Bears in the CCC.

That will change next year when El Capitan joins the CCC for the 2016-17 season.
