Fresno State football talking about looking forward to new season at Mountain West Media days

LAS VEGAS (KFSN) -- Mountain West media days concluded Wednesday night in Las Vegas and the west division took center stage, including Fresno State.

Fresno State is wiping the slate clean from a 3 to 9 season. Looking forward to the 2016 season which included an off-season shakeup in the coaching staff with new offensive coordinator Rric Kiesau and defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward.

"Lorenzo Ward, you know, he's helping us out here. We are having fun with him, he's making the defense a little less hard. I mean our defense is going out there getting ready," said Tyquwan Glass, Fresno State Defensive Back.

"Coach Kiesau is bringing a new fire, a new re-found energy to the guys, you know. He's got all of us pumped up for the new season coming up. Some new plays, probably going to try and take more shots down the field, try to score more points fast and early," said Aaron Peck, Fresno State Wide Receiver.

Just who the starting quarterback remains to be seen.

"Well, right now Chason Virgil has a leg up on everyone else. He's got the most experience in what we are trying to do. But he's going to have to continue to earn it the first couple weeks of camp. Hopefully, we will be able to name who are starting quarterback is, but we have a couple young talented guys that are going to compete with him and we will see how it plays out," said Tim DeRuyter, Fresno State Football Head Coach.

"You know every day that they (the quarterbacks) will come out compete and fight for their job every day," said Aaron Peck, Fresno State Wide Receiver.

Expect the dogs to have plenty of fight with a chip on their shoulder.

"I think our guys were really inspired in the off-season. We were used to either winning the championship or playing in the championship game, and clearly last year we didn't meet that expectation, but it gives you a little bit different drive and our guys have responded well to it," said DeRuyter.

"A fresh start is always good. So we just think about that 3 to 9 season so every time we work out, every time we go out, we are like we just don't want another season like that again," said Glass.

"Last year is over, we have to continue to fight-- we have some good things ahead of us," said Peck.

The bulldogs report to fall camp August 3rd, the first practice is the following day and the regular season opens up September 3rd at Nebraska.
