FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Ask fellow players and coaches about Josh Allen and these are the responses you will hear.

"He's got a really strong arm."

"He's a natural born leader."

"I've never seen anybody throw the ball further than him."

"When you give Josh Allen three seconds to throw the ball, the other team is in trouble."

Central Valley high schools found out the hard way when Firebaugh quarterback Josh Allen was firing the football every Friday night in high school.

"There's no place like home, going to Firebaugh was one of the greatest experiences of my life, it taught me a lot not just about football but about life," said Allen.

"He's used to competing all year around, not just competing, winning. He wins at everything he does," added former Firebaugh head coach Bill Magnusson.

But not without some adversity along the way. After graduating from Firebaugh, Allen played at Reedley junior college before signing with Wyoming, where in his first start in 2015 he suffered a season-ending injury.

"For a guy that played maybe 6 plays against Eastern Michigan before busting his collarbone he was the real deal," said Wyoming safety Andrew Wingard.

"I was eager the day after surgery to get back. It left a sour taste in my mouth," said Allen.

Allen and Wyoming are in the middle of a magical season that seen the Cowboys beat the likes of Northern Illinois in triple overtime and Mountain West foes Boise State and San Diego State in the final minutes.

"He has that competitive nature like a Tom Brady, that if you listen to him now, every team that didn't recruit him he's got him in their sights. You didn't recruit me okay, I got you, I'm back here I am," said Magnusson.
