Good Sports - Tulare Union Football's Dynamic Duo

TULARE, Calif. (KFSN) -- In Tulare a water tower reads the phrase "We've Got It." On the football field Tulare Union has it, a traditionally strong program that this year has a different look to it.

"We have Alicia, she is a sophomore, currently our PAT kicker, looks like a natural out there. She comes to practice everyday and wants to learn," said JV head coach Samuel Pedroza

"Told myself I'm going to play 3 sports, all 4 years. In my senior year, I can get an award so I had to think of something like that, so I had to think of something and water polo I was going to do and I was like that looks hard, so my last choice was football and I'm good at it because I play punt, pass and kick," said sophomore JV kicker Alicia Aguila.

"We have Alyssa, she's a freshman, trying to get to know her, she wants to get in there, wants to be a linebacker and a receiver, so she fits right in," said Pedroza.

"My 7th and 8th grade year, I played flag football and I thought in high school it would be good to come out and play football," said freshman linebacker Alyssia Leon.

Both Alicia and Alyssia enjoy talking football with each other whenever they can, but it's something not found in a playbook that's provided their biggest strengths.

"It doesn't matter if you are girl to play football. It actually bettered myself because I was shy and now I'm outgoing and I really don't care what other people think about me," said Aguila.

"Well, if you want to play football, it's not that hard, boys can judge you but it doesn't matter," said Leon.

Physically both are strong, playing multiple sports and now you can add football to that list and while they are relatively new to that sport, they learn something every day.

"You see that they want to learn, so you are re-teaching, so it gives you that better vibe, it pushes you to be a better coach and the kids to be better teammates," said Pedroza.
