Good Sports: Virgil Green
Former Tulare Union High Star is on the doorstep of Super Bowl title

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Before he was a Bronco, Virgil Green was catching touchdowns in Tulare. But growing up his first love wasn't football.

"Being a basketball kid growing up NFL wasn't even on my mind as a teenager. Didn't ever think that I would make it to the NFL, didn't even really think I would do anything in college really but I did and I'm glad I made that decision to play football," said Virgil Green.

Green honed his skills in high school at Tulare Union before playing in college at Nevada and in 2011 the decision to play football paid off, when the Denver Broncos drafted Green in the 7th round of the NFL Draft.

"He's done a tremendous job for us. To be able to come in and the way he works, continues to work, year in and year out. The way he improves, he's been help, he's a great person and does a great job for us," said Broncos General Manager John Elway.

"For him to get drafted and to go. To earn a spot on the 53-man roster, because that's key you can get drafted. Don't mean you are going to make the roster," said Virgil's mother Sharon.

"I'm just walking around on cloud nine thinking my son is playing on the Denver Broncos," said Virgil Green's father.

Cloud nine reached another level when Green scored his first career touchdown.

"Oh my God, me and my husband was jumping and screaming going crazy up in here. Bonkers, I'm sure the whole neighbors heard us because we were going bonkers up in here," said Sharon Green.

Green who's now getting ready to play in his second Super Bowl added, "I made a decision my sophomore year in college that going into the NFL was something I wanted to do and I put everything I had into football.

A decision that has Green on the doorstep of becoming a Super Bowl Champion.
