Good Sports: Chris Dominguez
Grizzlies infielder Chris Dominguez has managed to stand out among 6,000 Minor League Baseball players.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- When you're one of four players in all of Minor League Baseball to hit at least 20 home runs and steal 20 bases in a season, it's saying something. But for Fresno's Chris Dominguez, it has to do less with what's said and more with what's thought.

"It just shows how hard I've worked this past off season and throughout the year," the Grizzlies infielder said. "It's good to see what you've done in the break show in the games."

A third round pick of the Giants back in 2009 out of Louisville, the 27-year-old Dominguez has surprised opposing teams with his athleticism, stealing 21 bases as of earlier this week.

"I've always known I was pretty quick," Dominguez said. "People look at me and they think I run pretty slow, but I'm actually pretty fast. I just have more chances to steal bases this year."

"Opposing teams don't think he can run because he's such a big person and athlete," Fresno Grizzlies manager Bob Mariano said of Dominguez. "But he takes advantage of that."

But the Florida native's stats this season have not surprised manager Bob Mariano, who raves about Dominguez's presence in the clubhouse as well as on the left side of the infield.

"There are a lot of things that he can do," Mariano said. "He has a high upside with his tools. He's a five tool guy and he's got his power to all fields and like I said, you have to give him a lot of credit for the season he's put together."

And as a sure-fire September call-up by the Giants, Dominguez is hoping to keep his breakout season going at the big league level and either impress San Francisco or another team that sees him in action.

"It's great playing professional baseball, Minor League Baseball, but I want to make it to the ultimate stage and show what I can do," Dominguez shared. "And hopefully people take notice of that. They take notice on how I work and how I am in the clubhouse, and how I am around guys."
