Jose Ramirez Prepares For Las Vegas, Enjoys Being A Dad

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The pride of Avenal is spending most of his days training with Freddie Roach at the Wild Card gym in Los Angeles.

Jose Ramirez met with reporters Wednesday at an undercard presser that includes his fight.

Jose will fight on pay per view, April 9th that includes the main event between Manny Pacquaio and Timothy Bradley. Ramirez will put his WBC Continental Americas title on the line when he takes on fellow Super Lightweight Manny Perez.

Jose is still undefeated, but was given his toughest battle yet at last Cecember's Fight For Water 5 event at the Save Mart Center in Fresno. That fight resulted in a unanimous decision, but the local boxer did fall on one knee for a brief moment.

Jose is also having to balance his personal life a little more these days. His attention is in the ring, but now it's also outside it more than ever. Jose has four-month-old, Matteo Maximiliano Ramirez, and his dad tells me he gets to see pops about once a week during training.

Ramirez spent the holidays like most of us, with his family, girlfriend and friends.

He even got a little soccer in Avenal before training. "I'm very happy, my son he's very healthy. He's a very healthy boy, so I'm very thankful for that. He's getting so big, so fast. He's growing up so fast. He weighed in at 7.6 pounds when he was born. Now he's almost 21 pounds. He's pretty big for four months, actually. He squishes my hands and he gets excited when he sees me and now that I'm here in LA, I only get to see him once a week. It's a little hard, but those are the sacrifices I'm doing for him." Said Ramirez.
