Local boxer joins promotion group that represents Avenal's Jose Ramirez

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A local boxer is making an even bigger name for himself by joining the promotions group that represents Avenal's Jose Ramirez.

Nineteen-year-old Isidro Ochoa announced Monday that he's going pro after signing a contract with Top Rank Boxing.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer was also there to show his support.

Ochoa's interest in boxing began with the Fresno Police Activities League when he was just seven-years-old. The teen became emotional when he talked about growing up in a poor household and how the program helped steer him on the right track.

Ochoa competed for more than nine years in the US boxing program. He touts an amateur career with 110 bout wins and twelve national titles.

Ochoa's first professional fight takes place December second at the Save Mart Center with Jose Ramirez headlining the fight for water six boxing card.
