San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner threw a 30-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday and is on schedule for a rehab assignment next week, manager Bruce Bochy said.

The left-hander used all of his pitches in the bullpen session, Bochy said.

Bumgarner will throw a similar session on Saturday, then face hitters Tuesday before making his first rehab assignment May 26.

Bumgarner had surgery in March to have three pins inserted into the pinkie on his pitching hand, which was broken when he was hit by a line drive at the end of spring training.

Bochy said on Monday that the number of rehab starts will depend on whether the Giants fully stretch him out in the minors or let him do that in the majors.
