The Golden State Warriors are inviting veteran center JaVale McGee to training camp in a bid to address their need for a rim protector, according to league sources.

Sources said the Warriors will sign McGee to a make-good contract for the chance to make their 15-man roster in October.

In creating the needed salary-cap space to sign Kevin Durant away from the Thunder, Golden State was forced to sacrifice three of its four centers: Andrew Bogut (traded to Dallas), Festus Ezeli (signed with Portland) and Marreese Speights (signed with the Los Angeles Clippers).

The Warriors have since signed David West and re-signed Anderson Varjeao, but have decided to gamble on the athletic McGee in hopes they can unearth a rotation player and add a shot-blocker to the roster.

McGee, 28, spent last season with the Mavericks after prior stints with the Wizards, Nuggets and 76ers.
