Tom Brady wins NFL-record 201st game

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The 199th pick of the 2000 NFL draft now stands alone at No. 201.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady became the NFL's all-time winningest quarterback on Sunday following the team's 26-10 triumph over the Los Angeles Rams at Gillette Stadium, breaking a tie with Peyton Manning to notch win No. 201.

"I'm grateful for all of my teammates and my coaches and for my family and friends," Brady said. "There's been a lot of great football over the years, so it's always been about winning and I've been very fortunate to be on a lot of great teams. I just feel very grateful."

The week before, Brady had broken a second-place tie with Brett Favre on the career wins list.

"Tom breaking the record, of course that's what it is all about, winning games," said coach Bill Belichick. "Thinking back to that first one, in 2001 against Indianapolis, that's a lot of water under the bridge."

Brady finished 33-of-46 for 269 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's victory.

"We're in a locker room with a walking legend [who] has the most wins in quarterback history in the NFL but he still comes to work like he hasn't accomplished anything," said CB Malcolm Butler. "I look up to that. Much respect and congratulations."

Brady, 39, has mostly deflected all praise relating to his lofty standing.

"It's a team sport. Individual awards and things like that mean that I've been a part of great teams with great coaches and great teammates," he said after win No. 200 last Sunday. "I've had a lot of really great support over the years, so hopefully we can keep winning. It never gets old."

A four-time Super Bowl winner and two-time NFL Most Valuable Player, Brady has now recorded 179 regular-season wins and 22 in the playoffs. Manning posted 186 wins in the regular season and 14 in the postseason.

Last Sunday, Belichick pointed out the little things that Brady does to help produce those victories.

"Situational plays that don't show up in the stat sheet are plays that you need for your team to win and Tom does a great job of that," he said. "He's as good a situational football player as I've ever coached."

In 50 of Brady's 201 wins, the Patriots were tied or losing in the fourth quarter. He has won an NFL record 13 division titles, and also holds the NFL record for most passes thrown without an interception (358, 2010-2011).

Last week, Brady also became the fifth NFL quarterback to reach 60,000 passing yards, joining Manning (71,940), Favre (71,838), Drew Brees (64,490) and Dan Marino (61,361).

Brady has been a Patriots captain in each of the past 15 seasons, a team record. His 232 games played are the most in team history.

"We love Tom," Patriots running back Dion Lewis said. "Whenever you have a guy like that, one of the best who's ever played the game, you know he's going to help you win."
