LAS VEGAS (KFSN) -- Hundreds of gunshots rained down on the crowd just after 10:00 p.m. and most of them took their cues from singer Jason Aldean.

Fresno State graduate Candice Amico said, "He looks over to the left because that's where the sound of the shots was coming from, and he was a little confused and then all of the sudden, as soon as that video ended, the band stopped playing and they got off stage and everyone in the audience just dropped to the floor."

As the gravity of the situation dawned on him, Sanger's Isaac Plata realized he needed to escape.

"I grabbed my wife and we quickly got down on the ground and that's where the gunshots were persistent. It didn't stop and it was one of our scariest moments of our lives."

The Platas got away as fast as they could, crawling through blood and past shooting victims, trying to help whoever they could on the way.

"We saw two people who needed help and tried to tourniquet those people and then they said the shooter was coming, so many rumors out there, so we decided to leave the scene," said Heather Plata.

We talked to another woman who said she took cover under a trailer and watched the sparks from bullets hitting the ground just a few feet away.

The Platas made their way out, leaving behind their wallets and their sense of safety.

"You hear all these things on the news-- mass shootings. Until you become one of those, you don't get that full effect of how precious life can be," said Isaac.

We mentioned the Platas tried to help and we heard a lot of stories like that out here. They escaped to a hotel with about 40 people and that hotel eventually just gave everyone a free room for the night.

That is one thing they wanted people to know was just how helpful everyone was out here Sunday night.
