Pedestrian killed on Shaw near Cedar in Northeast Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Some Eastbound lanes of Shaw Avenue are back open after a pedestrian was hit and killed by a pickup truck.

Police say the victim was on crutches, carrying multiple bags, while illegally crossing the road outside of the crosswalk. After the accident, the driver of the pickup truck pulled over and used his vehicle to protect the victim so no one else would hit him.

The driver of the pickup truck was driving on a suspended license, but police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor.

The accident is still under investigation, so traffic may be slow in the area on Friday morning.
