1 killed in crash on Highway 41 near Riverdale

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The California Highway Patrol is trying to figure out what led to a deadly crash near Riverdale.

The collision happened on Highway 41 near Harlan Avenue just before 10 p.m. Friday. Investigators say Chandler Souza, 19, of Tulare was driving a Mitsubishi with three passengers, when she drifted into oncoming traffic. Her car collided head-on with a Ford.

One person in the Mitsubishi died at the scene, but his name and age have not been released. Two 18-year-olds in that car suffered minor injuries. Both drivers were taken to the hospital with major injuries.

Officers say alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 41 were shut down while crews cleared the scene.
