Tioga Pass through Yosemite National Park to open on Thursday

Tioga Pass, Highway 120, eastern entrance to Yosemite National Park (Yosemite National Park)

Tioga Road, Highway 120, which connects Lee Vining and Mono Lake to Yosemite National Park, will open on Thursday, June 29th at 8 a.m.

The National Park Service said no food, lodging or gas will be available along the road. Tamarack Flat Campground is the only campground that is currently open along Tioga Road. This campground is first-come, first served and fills early in the day according to the park service.

There is still a lot of snow in the upper elevations and hikers are asked to stop by the Tuolumne Meadows between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to check on trail conditions before heading out.

Anyone planning to hike or backpack near Tuolumne Meadows and in all high elevation areas of Yosemite should be prepared for winter hiking and camping conditions. Trails are still impacted by snow and ice. River crossings are high and swift moving. There are several high water areas currently impacting the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and the John Muir Trail (JMT) in Yosemite National Park. Trail conditions may vary at any time.

At 9,943 feet above sea level, Highway 120 is California's highest mountain pass and serves as an eastern entrance to Yosemite National Park.
