Two friends in Australia had a close call with a lightning strike during a thunderstorm in Australia, and they captured the astonishing moment on video.

Nick Panayiotou and Daniel Dudman were near a boat shed on Oyster Bay in Sydney on Jan. 30 when they began filming an approaching storm. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck the water right in front of the men.

Panayiotou told Australia's 7News the lightning struck so close that "We felt the static."

During a thunderstorm, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) advises to stay inside an enclosed area. If you are outdoors with no nearby safe shelter, NOAA says to avoid elevated areas or standing by trees and tall buildings. It also advises to stay away from bodies of water and objects that conduct electricity.
