With rain a possibility Big Fresno Fair organizers say they are ready for some wet weather
Rain is something organizers who plan the Big Fresno Fair don't like to hear is a possibility. But they said if it comes down, the fun rides and entertainment will still go on.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Rain is something organizers who plan the Big Fresno Fair don't like to hear is a possibility. But they said if it comes down, the fun rides and entertainment will still go on.

"It's going to rain tomorrow and we didn't want to get in the rain," said Gabrielle Calemmo, fair goer.

Calemmo brought her two kids to the Big Fresno Fair Thursday. She had planned on taking them Friday but found out there was a chance rain would fall here in the Central Valley.

"My husband saw it on the news so I just knew not to come tomorrow."

So the family of four packed up their car and drove from Visalia for their first trip ever to the fair. It's one Calemmo said they will never forget.

"It's been overwhelming, there's just so much to do and everything is large and I don't know where to go next ."

This isn't the first time rain has poured on one of Fresno's most popular events. Last year dark clouds filled the sky over the fair and raindrops puddled on food stands and across the grounds.

The rain, however, did not seem to bother the hundreds of kids who took over the fair for Education Day.

Deputy Fair Manager Lauri King said if the clouds open up and you don't want to get wet do not stay home. Because there are things you can do that will keep you dry.

"We have nine exhibit buildings that you can be inside checking everything out and covered. We also have lots of different sitting areas that are covered, are grandstand is covered so you can watch the horse racing. So we're ready to go."

And while the rain may be a threat for some of the food trucks and vendors who might question what it will do to their business, that's not the case for Golden Kettle Corn. The folks there lived through the rain last year and they are confident they will live through it again.

"I think people actually will come out when they think it's going to rain because it's not as busy and the crowds aren't there and it's easier to get on rides and get their food and not worry about waiting in line," said Gianni Messmer, Golden Kettle Corn.

Some folks are welcoming the rain. They said it will be a good cool down from the heat that has stuck with the fair over the last week.
