California Highway Patrol officers were escorting cars through the pass earlier Tuesday morning. Officials said they planned to reopen the highway after they made it through the entire pass.

The highway was shut down Monday night after snow had accumulated for hours, making for dangerous driving conditions.

Snow has been accumulating for hours and is now sticking to the road, making for very dangerous driving conditions.

Caltrans officials said the areas hardest hit are the southbound sides at Grapevine Road in Kern County and the northbound lanes at Parker Road in Castaic.
