Fresno Residents Go Cold
Roughly 500 residents in a central Fresno apartment complex have lived for over a week now without gas.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Roughly 500 residents in a central Fresno apartment complex have lived for over a week now without gas.

Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries, or FIRM for short, said the mostly southeast Asian refugees that live in the complex have not had gas. So heaters, stoves and ovens in the units are not working.

Some children tell FIRM they haven't been able to sleep because it's so cold at night.

Today, FIRM received a cash donation, as well as many heaters and blankets from community members. "This is just not a very good issue and the community needs to know that this type of thing is happening because, unfortunately, sometimes, the refugee community voice is a quiet one and hopefully we can help amplify that voice," said FIRM executive director Zack Darrah.

The apartment's property manager tells Action News gas was shut off for safety reasons, and delays were caused because of miscommunication.

He apologized and said gas is expected to be turned on Monday.
