White house wants public to help choose the National Thanksgiving Turkey
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Valley-born Foster Farms birds selected to take part in the White House Turkey Pardon are adjusting well to the east coast.
Tuesday morning, they were given their official names-- "Honest" and "Abe".
Until Wednesday's ceremony, they will be staying at a snazzy hotel in Washington DC. Their handlers spread tons of wood chips on the floor of their hotel room to make them feel comfortable. "It's like we raised them in the Central Valley. We give them a lot of space. We want them to be comfortable and after a long trip, coming from jet lag, we want them to relax and give them a lot of space," said Jihad Douglas, the Chairman of the National Turkey Federation.
The White House said this year they are leaving the decision of which turkey will be dubbed the National Thanksgiving Turkey to the public, and they're taking votes online.
Honest is just a quarter of an inch taller than Abe and weighs a little more than he does. But both have a wingspan of six feet, and according to their handlers both like country music.
